Chasing and repousse are techniques for moving metal from the front and back. Copper is one of my favorite metals because of its ductility and natural beauty. I have zero training in these techniques so far, but play around on my own. I made this sign as a gift for a good friend.
I also made a custom plate for the back of my leather apron with my Chinese name in seal script. Did I mention I'm bilingual? Studying Mandarin since 1992 🤘
These two characters, "family" and "beautiful", were my first attempt at chasing and repousse. The copper came from a discarded plumbing pipe that I scavenged and cut, then split so I could flatten it out. I also buy scrap cutoffs from a metal seller once in a while. I really love copper, and believe it only gets more beautiful as it ages and is handled.
